A polynucleotide is a chain made from DNA building blocks. In the products discussed here, those chains are fragmented and purified, and in most cases the source is fish. That describes what the material is. It does not, by itself, establish what an injection will do in a person. - 1.1What polynucleotides actually are
Before anything can be said about whether the treatment works, it helps to know what is being injected. The material is simpler than the marketing suggests and stranger than most clinic pages admit.

Almost every polynucleotide product on the UK market begins as fish. That fact is rarely prominent on a clinic page and it changes several decisions.
- 1.3PN and PDRN are not the same abbreviation
One of these terms carries a body of published work behind it. The other is frequently used to borrow that work. Knowing which is which is the single most useful piece of vocabulary in this subject.
- 1.4Marketing category, regulatory category
This is the most consequential misunderstanding in the whole subject, and almost nobody selling the treatment explains it, because explaining it does not help sell the treatment.
- 1.5How it differs from hyaluronic acid
The comparison most patients arrive with is to fillers and skin boosters. It is a useful comparison, provided the differences are set out precisely rather than in the language of category rivalry.
